Do We Really Love?
i was watching an episode of "Touched By An Angel" this afternoon and i guess you could say it sort of motivated me to do this entry, and with V-Day around the corner i guess its fitting... Do we really love?

now i'm not talking about your usual boyfriend-girlfriend love, cos if it was about that i wouldn't be typing this at all seeing as how i've been bf deprived all my life. anyways thats not the point. i'm speaking of love in general...

i mean, all religions preach love, we sing songs about love, we write poems and stories about love, we make movies about love, we say that love conquers all and that love is blind, we take vows of love, but do we really love?

because for a species that has been blessed with the power of unconditional love, we sure hate quite easily. we can hate each other so much, and do such cruel things to each other.. it makes me wonder.. havent you ever thought about it? its so hard for us to love someone, but its so easy for us to hate. we work hard to make people love us and we work hard to love another, but we can hate in a matter of seconds.

so in a way, that makes it seem like we're taking the easy way out. its fast and easy to hate, but love can take time and hard work.. is that why the world is like what it is today? because so many people are taking the easy way out and choosing not to love? after all, love = time and to some time = money. could we say that we have no time to love?

we say we love our friends, parents, children, spouses, siblings, etc...but do we really love them? Especially when it gets tough, will we work hard to keep on loving them or just do what seems to be human nature these days, and take the easy way out and hate? why do we find it so hard to love people who are different from us? what's so different? weren't we all created to love? weren't we all taught to love? where did all the teachings go? if love is unconditional, how can a person write a poem about love one day and go and kill another person the next? if love is equal, why are some rich and some poor? if love is blind, why do we label each other black or white? if love is the universal language, why do we fight wars over simple misunderstandings? if love is freely given, why do some people have to buy love with expensive gifts? if love is strong, why are the vows of love so easily broken? Most of us are born in love, why do we live in hate? if we believe in love, why are we so quick to dismiss or ignore it? if love conquers all, why does hate still exist?

So do we love? do we really love? do we still have the power to love? or have we forgotten how to love? do we know, or have we forgotten what love is?...or do we simply just love to hate..when you look at another person, do you think you could love him or her unconditionally, equally, regardless of color, race, status or faults.. or would you take the easy way out and simply hate?

for that answer, look to a child, a child still untouched by parents' teachings. a child can really love without prejudice if left to love without the whisperings of those around. children dont hate. a child has to learn from its elders.. but when it comes to love, i think elders should learn from their children, they could teach us a thing or two about it.

"i would see the White Tree in flower again in the courts of kings, and the Silver Crown return, and Minas Tirith in peace: Minas Anor again as of old, full of light, high and fair, beautiful as a queen among other queens: not a mistress of many slaves, nay, not even a kind mistress of willing slaves... i do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. i love only that which they defend, and i would have her loved for her memory, her ancientry, her beauty and her present wisdom, not feared" - Faramir, Captain of Gondor.

"It is best to love first what you are fitted to love, i suppose: you must start somewhere and have some roots.." - Merry, Hobbit of the Shire
