Its My Party & I'll Cry If I Want To
its funny how you can go from a job you love doing to one you simply cant stand to be a part of.. thats how it went from NRJC to the Kids Science Fest. not counting the 4 days i worked at McD's, this has to be one of the more miserable jobs i've taken up.

man there is such a big difference between the SC Events dept and the rest of the SC staff. the people at Events are just so nice and laid back, its like you're coming to work with friends. even Clarence told me, "You dont work for us, you work with us." which is true in a way. i've worked with these people for two major events now and they've just been so nice. like Idzhani kept warning us that she was going to get very bitchy during NJRC, but she was one of the nicest people to work with, so much so that i want to come back for next year's NJRC. she was even nice enough to give us parting gifts - just sweets, but its still nice to be appreciated.

on the other end of the coin you have the people running the Kids Science Fest. they're called the Upstream dept - like, whatever man. and they are just the most surly, stuck up, most unpleasant people i've ever had the misfortune of working for. and i'm not alone in thinking this either, so no, i'm not exaggerating.

it began last Tuesday when the agent told us to come down for a "briefing". that briefing turned out to be a 4-hour training session that no one was prepared for and we were suddenly made to work, no time for lunch, nothing! man i should have known right there that there was something wrong with these people, but i didnt want to judge. Clarice and i were put in charge of the Simple Machines workshop and we had to teach kids how to build a paper dump-truck.

and thats where we were introduced to our supervisor Ryan.

i should have known that someone sharing the same name as my loser cousin could not be a good sign, but again, i didnt want to judge.

Wednesday and Thursday were just miserable. Ryan is just such an arrogant, stuck up little pipsqueak of a man (yeah, he's short) who refuses to give C and me any breaks at all, forbids us from leaving our workshop station, keeps thinking we're not doing our jobs, and wont even let any of our other friends stop by our booth for a chat when there's no one around in the exhibition hall. sheesh! as Zack would say: "Bastard."

not that the other supervisors are any better. they never smile, and they're all a bunch of hypocrites who think they're all so powerful just cos they wear the red SC jackets. Frag them all. the Events people wear them too but they dont go round acting like stuck-up cows! these Upstream people treat us like we're not worthy of respect just cos we're all temporary staff, Slag that! we're the ones doing all the hard work while you assholes just walk around, heap more work on us than we can handle, then talk to each other, look at us like we're not doing our jobs eventhough C and i are like 5 kids to one of us. Slag you all to the flaming inferno!

and then there's the matter of lunch. its pitiful! its barely filling for us girls, so i cant imagine how the guys feel. we're only allowed one measly box of lunch and once we take it, our name's ticked off, so we cant take a second if we're still hungry. add to that they want us to keep our lunch break to only 20 minutes so we cant even buy extra food from the cafe if we're still hungry.

they ask us for feedback, and when we complained about the lunch yesterday, one of the bitches goes, "oh but we're paying for your lunch you know." Frag you! nobody asked you to. its better in that case if you give us one unpaid hour off to let us go and find our own food. its what we did for LOTR and everyone was happy with it. but nooooo. so much for feedback huh? i was just miserable the entire train ride home.

it got to a point where we're just doing this for the money, but money's not everything to some people. Joey already quit. and i for one wasnt even going to come in today if it wasnt for C and Jen. little conspirators =). i decided to bear with it today, and it was really nice of Ross to come in and see how we were doing.

but yeah, C and Jen had secretly organized a little birthday celebtraion for me after work with the other Events people: Fatimah, Lai San, Jane, Wendy, Idzhani, Ross, Kevin.. awww... thanks guys, i really appreciate it. i mean it. there was a little cake and candles and Birthday Song =D. really, Thank You. of course i do object to getting cake smushed in my face ;) you're just lucky i managed to get all of it off me.

then we went upstairs to the Events office and had a Silly String fight, before Lai San, Jane, Fatimah and i went down to Orchard for dinner. i have to say it was a very nice pre-birthday and it really cheered me up.

2 days to go!
